The German national team suffered huge losses in the 1/8 round of Euro

Both of the host's key midfielders, Antonio Rudiger and Jonathan Tah, had problems after the final group stage match, a 1-1 draw with Switzerland, yesterday.

Rudiger and Tah both started in the match at Frankfurt Arena. After that, Tah received a yellow card in the 38th minute for a high foot foul and left the field in the 61st minute, making way for Nico Schlotterbeck. Due to receiving a card in the previous match, Tah definitely cannot participate in the 1/8 round.

Rudiger played fully, but appeared to be in pain at the end of the match and continuously held his thigh. “There may be a problem with him,” coach Julian Nagelsmann said. “But I hope nothing bad happens.”

Rudiger's problem may be related to the quality of the pitch. Before the match, Nagelsmann warned of the risk of injury to players when playing on this field, with the example of Kyle Walker and Jude Bellingham getting hurt in England's 1-1 draw with Denmark in the second round of Group C.

Germany has three other midfielders: Nico Schlotterbeck (on Dortmund's staff), Robin Koch (Frankfurt) and Waldemar Anton (Stuttgart). However, the international experience of all three is limited, with a total of 24 matches for the national team.

Meanwhile, Rudiger has played 72 matches, while Tah has played 28 and was in high form last season. Rudiger is the mainstay of Real Madrid winning the La Liga and Champions League double. Tah helped Bayer Leverkusen win the Bundesliga for the first time under Xabi Alonso.

Germany will have five days to prepare for the 1/8 round, taking place on the evening of June 29. Coach Nagelsmann said the team will have a full rest day on June 24 before returning to practice.
